Ardy Verhaegen: Intro to Esalen Deep Tissue
RMT Master Class Series: January 10, 2009
Esalen Deep Tissue Massage is a synthesis of massage and the direct fascia mobilization techniques of Structural Integration (Rolfing). Releasing chronic restrictions in the myofascial system often leads to structural changes, which improve posture, reduce chronic pain and can dislodge long held emotional and psychological patterning. The primary principles followed in the application of this method are the careful utilization of gravity and to let the tissue have its say. By closely adhering to these principles the therapist is able to work without overly straining her body while working to the appropriate and effective level necessary to affect profound and lasting change in the client's tissues.
Ardy Verhaegen, BIS, RMT has been a bodyworker for 32 years. He has taught the Deep Tissue Work at the Esalen Institute, was a charter affiliate of the Guild for Structural Integration, and practised massage and the Rolf Method of Structural Integration in California, Toronto and Waterloo. Ardy is the creator of the method presented in these workshops, has taught hundreds of therapists over the past 26 years. He now focuses on teaching.
